I have decided to serve as a full-time missionary for my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love my faith and want to share the truth and peace that it brings to my life with others. When I was younger I never thought about serving, but during the first few weeks of college I was reading in the Doctrine and Covenants, Chapter 11 and came upon the worlds: Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word... then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men. My best friend had recently left on a mission and it had sparked a thought of maybe serving a mission myself. When I read those words I realized I did have a desire to serve, but that I had to prepare. I prayed to know if a mission was right for me, and God answered my prayer. Yes, I am supposed to serve a mission. I received my letter with the assignment to serve in McAllen, Texas. What a peaceful feeling it is that God knows what goes on in my life and the lives of everyone on this earth. His love is universal, yet so personal; I feel of it everyday as I strive to live his commandments and follow his council. Hermana Hemmingsen
In our church we believe that everyone is a child of God. Being sons and daughters of the same God makes us brothers and sisters. Male missionaries are called Elders because that is their title of the priesthood they hold. Female missionaries are called sisters, it too is just a title to remind us that we are all apart of God’s family.
Hermana is sister in Spanish, and since I will be speaking Spanish in Texas, my official title will be Hermana Hemmingsen. month by month
