There once was a young woman named Karen who lived in Maryland. One morning she woke up to a broken dishwasher, and called her brother to come a fix it. He reffered her to his roommate who just happened to be a maintence man.
A couple days later, Adolfo, the handy man arrived at the footstep of Karen's home, tools in hand. She invited him in , and after two hours of chatting in the living room, they realized they totally forgot about the dishwasher. Adolfo quickly fixed the probelm, said goodbye and went on his way.
Karen realized that this was no ordinary maintenence man and decided to write Adolfo a note of gratitude. When he receieve the letter, he called Karen and asked if he could do anything else to help. Her response was, "Well, as a matter of fact, could you come fix my sink?" .. so sly.. haha. Adolfo rushed over, but before he could get to the sink, he asked Karen to be his girl friend.
They dated for a couple of months when Adolfo recieved news that his mother was sick and needed his help. Karen took him to the airport so that he could fly home to Guatemala.
The two enjoyed phone calls every few days and soon became engaged.
Long story short, Adolfo tried to come back to the US only to find that his papers to reenter were invalid. He decided to do the right thing and allow himself to go into the mess of immigration so that he could be a legal citizen.
On August 21, 2014, he arrived at the Port Isabel Detention Center, and the next day Karen flew into Texas to save her fiance. She went to visit Adolfo, and as she was leaving she bumped into two girls wearing dresses and little black name tags identifying that they were missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her eyes filled with tears as she realized that God had sent Sister Stevenson and Sister Hemmingsen (and soon to be Sister Nail) to
teach her future husband.
The sisters got permission to teach Adolfo and returned to the immigration center every day the following week. Adolfo quickly felt the power of their message and committed to baptism within the first lesson. But the next problem was how..
As the sisters walked in the next day, Sister Stevenson noticed the name of the director on the wall. "Hey! I know him! He is a member of the church!"
And that following hour, the director just happened to walk through the waiting room, see Sister Stevenson, and gave Adolfo permission to be baptized. Of course there were several other bumps in the road,but.....
ADOLFO WAS BAPTIZED AND CONFIRMED A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS ON AUGUST 17,2014! He will be released perminately very soon, receive papers, then he and Karen will be married and will live happily ever after.
People. Miracles happen. There is no way humanly possible that Adolfo's baptism could have happened without the Lord guiding the path. God loves all his children; no matter where they are, He provides a way.
What an amazing experience it has been to be the one to teach (but actually to learn from) Adolfo. His testimony is powerful and has changed my life forever.
The church is true.
all my love,
